HomeMy WebLinkAboutExhibitATTACHMENT "A" CITY OF MIAMI DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SENIOR RENTAL ASSISTANCE PILOT PROGRAM Program Description: The Senior Rental Assistance Pilot Program is designed to mitigate the rental housing cost burden of City of Miami residents that are 62 years, or older, whose household income is 40%, or less, of Miami -Dade County's AMI. The program is designed to offset rent increases relative to our senior resident's fixed income which is usually greater than the cost of living increases for their social security or other fixed income. The unmitigated rental increases oftentimes force senior residents to choose between housing and other costs such as food and medication. The goal of the program is to lift the housing cost burden of extremely low-income and very low-income seniors renting in the City of Miami, who are severely cost burden, by ensuring that these eligible residents don't spend more than 50% of their monthly income on housing cost. Source of Funding: General Fund Eligible Costs: Monthly rent cost that exceed 50% of the senior resident's monthly household income. Eligible Properties: Must be a rental property located in the City of Miami with no code violations and funding prioritized as follows: • Rental housing funded by the City of Miami; and • Subsidized rental housing in the City of Miami. Eligible Tenant(s): • Must be 62 years or older; • Household income must be 40%, or less, of Miami -Dade County's AMI; • Cannot have more than $5,000.00 in total bank account(s); • Cannot receive rent subsidies; and • Rent must be current. Required Documents: • Most recent proof of monthly income; • State of Florida issued identification card; • Copy of executed lease agreement; and Page 1. of 2 • Affidavit attesting that the rental unit is their primary residence. Amount to be provided: Basic monthly rent cost that exceed 50% of the senior resident's monthly household income but not to exceed $100.00 per month per household. Pavment: Payments will be made directly to landlord on a monthly basis. Leneth: Payments will be made for an initial period of 12 months. Renewal of payments will be subject to availability of funds and tenant(s) maintaining eligibility. Page 2 of 2
