CITY OF MIAMI
DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
SENIOR RENTAL ASSISTANCE PILOT PROGRAM
Program Description:
The Senior Rental Assistance Pilot Program is designed to mitigate the rental housing
cost burden of City of Miami residents that are 62 years, or older, whose household
income is 40%, or less, of Miami -Dade County's AMI. The program is designed to offset
rent increases relative to our senior resident's fixed income which is usually greater than
the cost of living increases for their social security or other fixed income. The
unmitigated rental increases oftentimes force senior residents to choose between housing
and other costs such as food and medication. The goal of the program is to lift the
housing cost burden of extremely low-income and very low-income seniors renting in the
City of Miami, who are severely cost burden, by ensuring that these eligible residents
don't spend more than 50% of their monthly income on housing cost.
