A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
PURSUANT TO SECTION 18-72 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION
OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE MAYOR'S SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S
ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FORTY-
SIX THOUSAND, EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS ($46,800.00) TO UNITED WAY
OF MIAMI-DADE, INC., A FLORIDA NOT FOR PROFIT CORPORATION, IN
SUPPORT OF THE CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN EARLY EDUCATION AND
EARLY HEAD START CHILD CARE PARTNERSHIP; FURTHER
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY
AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE
CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE.

WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative ("API") to
address poverty based on a strategy of focusing the provision of support towards the City's
residents achieving self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, United Way of Miami -Dade, Inc., a Florida not for profit corporation ("United
Way"), is seeking funding in support of the Center for Excellence in Early Education and Early
Head Start Child Care ("Program"); and
WHEREAS, the Program, described in further detail in the API Funding Request
Form which is attached and incorporated herein as Exhibit "A," is designed to serve those who
are most in need by providing a well -implemented, high quality, early care and education
program to vulnerable families and children from birth to age five (5) with the aim to close the
achievement gap through school readiness and parental awareness; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 18-72 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as
amended ("City Code"), the Mayor wishes to provide grant funds from the Mayor's share of the
City's API in an amount not to exceed Forty -Six Thousand, Eight Hundred Dollars ($46,800.00)
("Funds") for the Program; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager is requesting authority from the City Commission to
negotiate and execute any and all documents necessary, all in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, for the allocation of Funds for the Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.

Section 2. Pursuant to Section 18-72 of the City Code, the City Manager is authorized'
to allocate Funds from the Mayor's share of the City's API to United Way for the Program.
Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized' to execute any and all necessary
documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

' The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
