HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-19-0351City of Miami q Legislation Resolution: R-19-0351 File Number: 6471 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 9/12/2019 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, AFTER AN ADVERTISED PUBLIC HEARING, CODESIGNATING THAT PORTION OF SOUTHWEST 10TH STREET FROM SOUTHWEST 15TH AVENUE TO SOUTHWEST 19TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "MIGUEL ALVAREZ GIMENO WAY"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES. SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Joe Carollo WHEREAS, Miguel Alvarez Gimeno was born on January 19, 1928, in the city of Havana and died on January 8, 2018 in the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, Miguel Alvarez Gimeno was a Cuban patriot, a member of the 2506 Brigade during the Bay of Pigs invasion, and president of the 2506 Brigade Veterans Association; and WHEREAS, Miguel Alvarez Gimeno participated in many actions aimed at liberating Cuba from the Castro dictatorship; and WHEREAS, Miguel Alvarez Gimeno is remembered as a loyal friend and brother to anyone who was going through a difficult situation; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the City Commission honor the life of its exemplary resident by co -designating that portion of Southwest 10th Street from Southwest 15th Avenue to Southwest 19th Avenue, Miami, Florida as "Miguel Alvarez Gimeno Way"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. After an advertised public hearing, the City Commission hereby co -designates that portion of Southwest 10th Street from Southwest 15th Avenue to Southwest 19th Avenue, Miami, Florida as "Miguel Alvarez Gimeno Way" Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami -Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works; and the United States Postal Service. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.' 1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
