HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-19-0253City of Miami q Legislation Resolution: R-19-0253 File Number: 5605 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 6/27/2019 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY STEPS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NEGOTIATING AND EXECUTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ("CITY") CURRENT INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO ALLOW FOR THE ADDITION OF THE LIBERTY CITY TROLLEY ROUTE TO THE CITY'S TROLLEY SYSTEM TO CONNECT WITH THE EXISTING LITTLE HAITI TROLLEY ROUTE, ALLAPATTAH METRORAIL STATION, THE CALEB CENTER, AND NUMEROUS MIAMI- DADE COUNTY METROBUS ROUTES. WHEREAS, the City Manager has expressed his desire to implement a trolley route within the Liberty City area; and WHEREAS, the current system serves many neighborhoods across the City of Miami, ("City") including Little Haiti, Flagami, Brickell, Little Havana, Coconut Grove, and Allapattah, with connections to Metrobus routes, Metrorail, Metromover, and other municipal circulators; and WHEREAS, there is a lack of trolley service in the Liberty City area and as such, the City wishes to implement a new trolley route to provide dedicated service to the Liberty City neighborhood; and WHEREAS, the route will serve the Liberty Square area, Miami Northwestern High School, Edison High School, the Caleb Center, and the main commercial corridors in the neighborhood; and WHEREAS, the Liberty City route can be implemented in a cost -neutral manner, without increasing overall peak number of vehicles, and by reducing the existing service on the Flagami and Brickell Trolley routes by one (1) vehicle each, which will reduce the stated frequency of service on the Brickell route from fifteen (15) minutes to twenty-five (25) minutes and have no discernable impact to the Flagami route; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. The City Manager is authorized' to take any and all necessary steps including, but not limited to, negotiating and executing an amendment to the City's current Interlocal Agreement with Miami -Dade County to add the Liberty City Trolley route to the City's trolley system, to connect with the existing Little Haiti Trolley route, the Allapattah Metrorail station, the Caleb Center, and numerous metrobus routes. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. 2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: 1 "ia dez, City Attor ley 9/6/2019 ' The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
