AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT 1
SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE IN A TOTAL
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS
($1,200.00) TO DO THE RIGHT THING, INC., A FLORIDA NOT FOR PROFIT
CORPORATION ("GRANTEE"), IN SUPPORT OF THE GRANTEE'S ANNUAL
SUMMER SALUTE AWARDS NIGHT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION PURSUANT, TO SECTION 18-
72 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"),
AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT 1
SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE IN A TOTAL
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS
($1,200.00) TO DO THE RIGHT THING, INC., A FLORIDA NOT FOR PROFIT
CORPORATION ("GRANTEE"), IN SUPPORT OF THE GRANTEE'S ANNUAL
SUMMER SALUTE AWARDS NIGHT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY
DOCUMENTS, ALL IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID
PURPOSE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative ("API") to
address poverty, based on a strategy of focusing the provision of support towards the goal of
having the City's residents achieve self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, Do The Right Thing, Inc., a Florida not for profit corporation ("Grantee"), is
seeking funding in support of Annual Summer Salute Awards Night ("Program"); and
WHEREAS, the Program is a tribute to student nominees who did the right thing during
the school year, by choosing to be drug and crime free, exhibiting non-violent behavior, doing
well in school, making a difference in their communities, and demonstrating turnaround
behavior; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 18-72 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as
amended ("City Code"), the District 1 Commissioner wishes to provide grant funds from the
District 1 share of the City's API in an amount not to exceed One Thousand, Two Hundred
Dollars ($1,200.00) ("Funds") for the Program; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager is requesting authority from the City Commission to
negotiate and execute any and all documents necessary, all in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, for the allocation of Funds for the Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Pursuant to Section 18-72 of the City Code, the City Manager is authorized'
to allocate Funds from the District 1 share of the City's API to the Grantee for the Program.
' The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized' to negotiate and execute any and all
necessary documents, all in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
