YOU -11 Eh-iNL0 _HENT PROGRAM
PROGRAM YEAR 2018-2019
The Liberty City Trust Youth
Employment Program ("YEP")
is a paid summer employment
and year-round employment
program for youth ages 14 to 18
since 2o16.
The employment program pro-
vides work experience for youth
typically between June and Au-
gust and after school.
The purpose of this program is
to introduce youth to the work-
force while giving them an op-
portunity to gain valuable work
knowledge and work ethic while
earning a paycheck to help meet
basic needs. In addition, youth
will build individual strengths
and working principles for ca-
reer development.
The program will support
youth with orientation ses-
sions and workshops to devel-
op:
• A greater understanding of
financial management
• Real-world work experi-
ence
• Improved interpersonal
communication skills
• Career advice and educa-
tional guidance
• Positive adult role models
• Connections for future ca-
reer opportunities
• Resume building for future
jobs or college applications
Funding for this employment pro-
gram has been provided through
District 5 Commissioner Harde-
mon Anti -Poverty Initiative Grant.
Youth will be paid $10 per hour
and generally work between 15 and
25 hours per week, depending up-
on the availability of funds. For
the summer students may work up
to 25 hours per week for 9 weeks.
YEP participants are identified
from Liberty City/Little Haiti com-
munity and returning students
from the area. Youth are expected
to follow the same work routine
and procedures that a regular em-
ployee would follow as it relates to
attendance, breaks, attire, job ex-
pectations, behavior, feedback and
correction, and if necessary, disci-
plinary procedures.
The goal is to provide a meaningful
work experience in a safe environ-
ment that exposes youth to the
normal expectations and duties of
a work site and provide training
and feedback so that the youth de-
velop the skills necessary to suc-
ceed in the workplace.
