BACKGROUND

API Allocation of $90,000 to The
Motivational Edge, Inc. from the District
1, Commissioner Gort — Four Fifth
Waiver
The City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative to address poverty and focus on providing
support to its residents.
The Motivational Edge, Inc. (Organization) strives to engage, educate and empower thousands of under -
resourced youth. The Organization has served over 450 youth in District 1 over the last five years at their
Allapattah Campus. The general program funding provided by this allocation will allow the Organization
to continue this work. The students at their Allapattah Campus will be trained by academic instructors,
coaches, and teaching artists; in addition to, providing them with access to sports equipment, soccer team
scholarship, and computers for elementary students in the after school program.
As the Organization is familiar with the needs of the community and the district, it would be advantageous
for the City to expedite the allocation and waive procurement requirements at this time. Providing these
funds to the Organization will allow local businesses to obtain these services immediately, with no added
time for the procurement process, which could take over 30-40 days.
RECOMMENDATION
In light of the above stated, approval of a waiver of the formal requirements of competitive sealed bidding
methods as not being practicable or advantageous to the City as set forth in the City Code of Ordinances,
as amended, specifically Section 18-85 (A), and the affirmation of these written findings and the forwarding
of the same to the City Commission for ratification by a four-fifths vote is respectfully requested.
