HomeMy WebLinkAboutSubmittal - Commissioner Reyes - Email from Grace SolaresFerreiro, Esteban Submitted into the public recar for hems} on l l City Clerk From: gachysolares@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2018 8:58 PM To: Reyes, Manolo (Commissioner); Carollo, Joe (Commissioner); Gort, Wifredo (Commissioner); Hardemon, Keon (Commissioner) Subject: SR -5 - MOTORIZED SCOOTERS ON SIDEWALKS Dear Commissioners - the above matter is before you tomorrow. Please vote NO on Second Reading. I have once again reviewed the recording of the meeting when you passed on First Reading the above Ordinance and I once again was shocked and amazed that after your discussing the many dangers that these motorized scooters present to the general public, particularly to the elderly traveling on their wheelchairs or walking on the sidewalks, the mothers with their children in their strollers, etc., you still voted for them, excluding your districts of course, but allowing them in District 2. Well, gentlemen, I live in District 2 and I am elderly, and I walk on the sidewalks of my district, and I have my grandchildren walking with me, and my son and daughter and the rest of my family. Aren't we entitled to continue living? Aren't we entitled not to be maimed? Shouldn't my daughter and daughter in law be entitled to, when pregnant, not lose their unborn child as a result of being hit by one of these scooters and falling to the pavement and be severely injured, her and my unborn grandchild? How can you, recognizing that these dangers exist with these motorized scooters being allowed on sidewalks, have voted to allow them in District 2 of the City of Miami? By the mere comments made by you on the record, the attorneys representing the victims of these scooter -provoked accidents, will have a field day and the coffers of the city will be severely depleted. You have, on the record, admitted to the possible injuries that may be caused by these scooters, but allowed them regardless. It was my intention to be at tomorrow's meeting to address these issues, but I need to accompany my sister to her radiation treatments since she suffers from cancer. This is the reason I am writing this email. Please Vote NO on Second Reading of the motorized scooters. Even allowing on a pilot program basis of six months is negligent. You know it. You have discussed it on the record and that is why you do not want them in your districts. Giving six months to test whether or not someone dies, gets maimed, is left a vegetable, etc., is unconscionable. Respectfully, Grace Solares 4qlS_ Aoml;4vYI.qQ.S
