I previously served for several years on the Board of the Arsht Center, including as a member of the Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Management Committee and as Assistant Treasurer. My significant experience in having served at the highest levels of the Arsht Center Board provides me with a substantial amount of institutional knowledge and will facilitate my ability to be productive immediately upon my re -appointment to the Board. In addition to my past service on the Board of the Arsht Center, I have had substantial involvement in multiple other performing arts boards. I am currently on one of the boards of the Juilliard School, which is widely regarded as the most prestigious performing arts school in the world. Juilliard is located in NYC and is part of the Lincoln Center campus. I also served for almost seven (7) years on the Board of Miami City Ballet, including as its Vice President. Tachmes is an attorney and partner in the Real Estate Department of Shutts & Bowen LLP, which is Miami's oldest law firm (founded in 1910) and one of its most prestigious. The firm has 250 lawyers with 8 offices in the State of Florida. In addition to serving as a partner in the Real Estate Department of the firm, Alex is Chair of the Zoning, Land Use and Local Government Practice Group in Miami and Co -Chair of the firm's Hospitality Practice Group. Alex received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Phi Beta Kappa, in 2 'h years from the University of Miami. Alex received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated in the top 5% of his class and was a member, published author and editor of the University of Miami Law Review. After working in major law firms for several years after law school, Alex left private practice in 1994 and was appointed a First Assistant City Attorney for the City of Miami Beach. During his tenure with the City, Alex's principal role was serving as lead counsel on the Loews Miami Beach Hotel project, which is one of the largest and most complex public-private transactions in Miami Beach history. After several years, Alex returned to the private sector and practiced in his own law firm before merging his practice with Shutts & Bowen, where Alex has been a partner for over 11 years. Alex has been passionate about the performing arts and other cultural endeavors for most of his life. Alex is currently a member of the Juilliard Council, which meets regularly and provides advice and financial support to the Juilliard School at Lincoln Center in New York City. Alex also served for multiple years on the Board of the Adrienne Arsht Center, where he was a member of the Executive Committee, the Finance and Operations Committee and the Management Committee and as Assistant Treasurer. Alex served for almost 7 years on the Board of Miami City Ballet, widely recognized as one of the top 10 ballet companies in the United States. Alex served as Vice President of the Ballet Board and was a key member of the Selection Committee that selected Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez after the resignation of Edward Villella. In addition to Alex's work as a board member of the Ballet and the Arsht, Alex and his firm also have handled many legal matters on a pro Bono basis for both organizations. In addition to Alex's extensive involvement in cultural organizations, Alex is also a founder of Mount Sinai Medical Center, a member of the board of Temple Moses, a member of LaGorce Country Club, a panelist and member of Renaissance Weekend and a past member of the Board of Directors of Jewish Community Services. Alex is close to his immediate and extended family, including his Mother, Brother and Yellow Lab, Percy. In addition to cultural activities, Alex enjoys sports, travel, fine food and wine, and public policy. Alex is fluent in Spanish.
