A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF THE
OPENING OF THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY IN JERUSALEM, ISRAEL; ENCOURAGING
OTHER COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD TO DO THE SAME; ENCOURAGING OTHER CITIES
TO ADOPT SIMILAR RESOLUTIONS OF SUPPORT; REAFFIRMING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S
SUPPORT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL IN ITS FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISTS AND
UNDEMOCRATIC REGIMES; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF
THIS RESOLUTION TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA CONGRESSIONAL
DELEGATION, THE UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF STATE, THE UNITED STATES
AMBASSADOR TO ISRAEL, AND PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF
THE OPENING OF THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY IN JERUSALEM, ISRAEL;
ENCOURAGING OTHER COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD TO DO THE SAME;
ENCOURAGING OTHER CITIES TO ADOPT SIMILAR RESOLUTIONS OF
SUPPORT; REAFFIRMING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S SUPPORT OF THE STATE OF
ISRAEL IN ITS FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISTS AND UNDEMOCRATIC REGIMES;
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO
ALL MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION, THE UNITED
STATES SECRETARY OF STATE, THE UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR TO
ISRAEL, AND PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") continues to foster a strong relationship with Israel
and is home to one of the largest Jewish populations outside of Israel; and
WHEREAS, Israel is a steadfast ally of the United States and the American people; and
WHEREAS, in 1995, the United States Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy
Relocation Act, which states that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, that it should remain an
undivided city, and that the American Embassy should be relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem;
and
WHEREAS, the city of Jerusalem is the seat of Israel's President, Parliament, and
Supreme Court and the site of numerous government ministries and social and cultural
institutions; and
WHEREAS, President Donald J. Trump stated on December 6, 2017 that the historic
opening of the United States Embassy in Jerusalem, Israel recognizes the reality that Jerusalem
is the capital of Israel and the seat of Israel's government and that moving the United States
Embassy is not a departure from our strong commitment to facilitate a lasting peace deal but a
necessary condition for it; and
WHEREAS, the opening of the United States Embassy on May 14, 2018 in Jerusalem,
Israel coincided with Israel's 70th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the City shares democratic values, common strategic interests, and bonds
of friendship and mutual respect with Israel, which is our friend and ally in the Middle East;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission declares that it supports the opening of the
United States Embassy in Jerusalem, the historic capital of Israel.
Section 3. The Miami City Commission encourages other countries of the world to
likewise express their support for the opening of the United States Embassy in Jerusalem,
Israel.
Section 4. The Miami City Commission encourages other cities to adopt similar
resolutions of support.
Section 5. The Miami City Commission declares that it stands with Israel and supports
Israel's right to defend and protect its citizens from the forces of tyranny and oppression to
ensure the survival of the State of Israel.
Section 6. The Miami City Commission reaffirms its strong support and steadfast
commitment to the security, welfare, and survival of the sovereign State of Israel and recognizes
Israel's right to secure its borders and to act in self-defense to protect its citizens from acts of
terrorism and undemocratic regimes.
Section 7. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to all members
of the Florida Congressional Delegation, the United States Secretary of State, the United States
Ambassador to Israel, and President Donald J. Trump.
Section 8. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.'

' If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from
the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City.
