A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CO -SPONSORING THE
ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEENTH (116TH) ANNIVERSARY OF CUBAN
INDEPENDENCE WITH FENIX BROADCASTING CORPORATION, WWFE-AM
RADIO ("LA PODEROSA"), FOR THE 20TH OF MAY MARCH, SCHEDULED FOR
MAY 20, 2018, FROM 11:00 A.M. TO 2:30 P.M., IN LITTLE HAVANA, MIAMI,
FLORIDA; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ASSIST WITH TECHNICAL
AND GENERAL SERVICES ASSISTANCE FOR THE EVENT, INCLUDING BUT
NOT LIMITED TO, WAIVER OF FEES UNDER SECTIONS 19-9 AND 54-
6.3(C)(18) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI.

WHEREAS, the 20th of May March ("the Event") is a commemoration of May 20, 1902,
the date of Cuban Independence from Spain and then the United States; and
WHEREAS, this date holds tremendous significance to the many Cuban -Americans who
live in Miami and whose families were forced to flee the communist regime since 1959; and
WHEREAS, the Event will provide a time and place for those who celebrate, not only
their Cuban heritage, but those who wait for the day freedom is once again restored to their
island nation; and
WHEREAS, the Event further provides an opportunity for all of Miami to celebrate its
strong immigrant heritage and its positive impact on our community; and
WHEREAS, the Event will be held in conjunction with Fenix Broadcasting Corporation,
WWFE-AM Radio ("La Poderosa") and will travel along 8th Street from 15th Avenue to 5th
Avenue, Miami, Florida, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, the Event will require the assistance of the Miami Police Department
("MPD"), City of Miami Fire -Rescue Department ("Fire -Rescue"), and other City of Miami
Municipal Departments; and
WHEREAS, the Special Events Detail costs for the required support of the MPD, Fire
Rescue, and other Municipal Departments is a financial burden on the Event; and
WHEREAS, the costs imposed by Section 19-9, Section 54-6.3(c)(18) of the Code of the
City of Miami ("City Code") and other required fees, can be waived and said associated costs
will result in a negligible financial impact to the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.

Section 2. The 20th of May March will be held in conjunction with Fenix Broadcasting
Corporation, WWFE-AM Radio ("La Poderosa") on May 20, 2018, in Little Havana, Miami,
Florida on Southwest 8th Street between 15th Avenue and 5th Avenue, Miami, Florida, from 11:30
a.m. to 2:30 p.m. is co-sponsored by the City Commission.
Section 3. The City Manager is directed to assist with technical and general services
assistance for the event, including but not limited, to include waiver of fees from Sections 19-9
and 54-6(3)(c)(18) of the City Code.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.'

' If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
