Discussion - Restoration of Historic Miami Marine Stadium
Purpose of Item:
Discuss the findings of Phase I Professional Services Report, Parts A thru D, prepared
by R.J. Heisenbottle Architects on the Restoration of the historic Miami Marine Stadium.
Background of Item:
In July 2017, R.J. Heisenbottle Architects ("Heisenbottle") completed the Phase I
Professional Services Report on the historic Miami Marine Stadium Restoration project,
B-30688. Phase I was broken into four parts as follows: Part A - Building Conditions
Assessment & Recommendations Report, Part B - Building Programming Services, Part
C - Cost Estimating, and Part D - Documentation of Existing Conditions. Each
individual finding has been summarized in the Executive Summary.
Heisenbottle has prepared and submitted a presentation summarizing the extensive
detailed report and executive summary, which ultimately answers complex questions
such as, "Can the Marine Stadium be successfully restored into a safe structure capable
of serving the community's cultural, sporting and entertainment needs?" "What sort of
new uses would the public like to see the stadium used for and what program areas and
equipment are necessary to support those potential uses?" And finally, "What will it
cost?"
Pursuant to the approval of Resolution R-17-0018, the Office of Capital Improvements is
ready to engage in negotiations with Heisenbottle to begin the work for Phase 11, which
consists of the Design, Construction Documents Bidding and Permitting. In addition,
Heisenbottle would like to nominate the Miami Marine Stadium Restoration project for
listing on the National Register of Historic Places, which said designation will serve as a
symbol of the Stadium's architectural, historic and cultural significance and as a symbol
of the City of Miami and its residents.
