Peter R. Ehrlich, Jr. May 25th, 2017 PZ 23
720 NE 691h Street, Miami, Florida 33138
I am on the boards of the MiMo Biscayne Association, The Urban
Environment League, Scenic Miami, Citizens for a Scenic Florida, The
Virginia Key Advisory Board, Friends of Legion Park...
I have a Resolution from the Little Havana Neighbors Association to
pass out.
I am before you as an individual.
I am speaking in favor of the item. I agree with the recommendation
of the Planning staff to approve the item. I agree with the 10-0 vote
of the PZAB Board to approve the item.
As many of you know, Upper East Side residents voted 99% and 100%
at successive meetings to oppose the City of Miami from being a Co -
Applicant with a speculator who wants to build 5-7 towers adjacent to
beloved Legion Park. The speculator only owns or leases 6.5 acres
adjacent to the park, less than the 9 acres required for a SAP.
Neighbors want to sleep at night. Nobody wants to stay awake worrying
a speculator will convince a City official it is OK to give away a City
park or taxpayer owned land.
Commissioner Francis Suarez and many others have commented on the
inherent "conflict of interest" of having the City go into business with a
speculator. What happens if neighbors want to sue over a bad decision?
Do neighbors have to go up against the full force of the City and its
taxpayer funded Legal Department to get justice?
Please vote to approve this legislation. Thank you.
