File Number: 4031 City of Miami Legislation Resolution Enactment Number: R-18-0170 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date:4/26/2018 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ALLOCATING GRANT FUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT 1 SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE PROGRAM IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $20,000.00 TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT FOR THE DISTRICT 1 SWIM VOUCHER PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative to address poverty based on principles outlined in the Gateway to Self -Sufficiency strategy which focuses on providing support to the City's residents in achieving self-sufficiency; and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department ("Department") has implemented the District 1 Swim Voucher Program ("Program") at City parks through the Aquatic Division to provide four hundred forty (440) youth in Commission District 1 to have eight (8) swim lessons per voucher; and WHEREAS, the Program furthers the Anti -Poverty Initiative within the City and exemplifies the principles outlined in the Gateway to Self -Sufficiency strategy; and WHEREAS, it is requested that the City Commission allocate Anti -Poverty Initiative funds from the District 1 share of Anti -Poverty Initiative Funds in the amount of $20,000.00 to the Program; and WHEREAS, the District 1 Commissioner desires to create an opportunity for District 1 youth to obtain swimming lessons where additional funds are necessary to do so; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of grant funds from the District 1 share of the City's Anti - Poverty Initiative in an amount not to exceed $20,000.00 to the Department for the Program is authorized.' Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 ' The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
