($10,000 Proposal based on 20 students per session)
INTRODUCTION
Commissioner Francis Suarez is pleased to partner with Elliott's Karate -Do
Program to fund the Envelopes of Safety Program, operated by the Miami -Dade
County School Board in partnership with District 7 County Commissioner Xavier
Suarez. Through this partnership, Commissioner Suarez will be funding an
afterschool martial arts program at Lenora Brayon Smith Elementary and Georgia
Jones -Ayers Middle.
MISSION STATEMENT
To touch as many lives as possible with the benefits that training in the Martial
Arts offer. To inspire our students to achieve success in Martial Arts as well as
other areas of life.
BASIC LEVEL SUCCESS CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Success lessons are built into every class. The following is an overview of what is
taught. Each lesson will be discussed during the week in class and then related to
how each student can relate it to their life.
BLOCK 1— "GOOD ATTITUDE"
Week 1— A good attitude doesn't guarantee success, but a bad attitude will
always guarantee failure
Week 2 —Self Motivation
Week 3 — Attitude of Gratitude
Week 4 — Being a good friend
BLOCK 2 — "GOOD HABITS"
Week 1— If you can do it for 21 days it will become a habit
Week 2 — Habits can be your best friend or your worst enemy, it's up to you!
Week 3 — The habit of being Pro -Active
Week 4 — The habit of "Beginning with the end in mind"
BLOCK 3 — "SELF-CONTROL AND SELF-DEFENSE"
Week_ 1— Accepting your discipline cheerfully
Week 2 — Reacting vs. Responding
Week 3 — Taking control over your thoughts and self -talk
Week 4 —The most important thing to use self-control with
BLOCK 4 — "GOOD MANNERS"
Week 1— Being aware of good manners, and using "The 7 magic words"
Week 2 — Polite and Confident Greetings
Week 3 — The importance of eye contact in every situation
Week 4— Making others feel special
UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT BUDGET
Student Karate Uniforms — 40 Uniforms
Cost per uniform - $27 (includes full uniform and patches)
Total - $1,080 (40 uniforms will provide a variety of sizes and extra for any
misplaced uniforms).
Training Equipment — Kicking Pads/ Body Shields
Focus Paddles — 25@$33 each - $825
Body Shields—12@$80 each - $960
Martial Arts Training - 16 weeks - $5,120
20 students @ 2 classes per week (1 hour classes) - $320/week (This total includes
instructor pay weekly and student weekly achievement awards, student of the
week, best kicker.. etc. (at instructor discretion).
Belt Testing - $2,000
Students will be tested for 2 belt levels during the program course at $50 each
level. Each student will receive a new belt color recognizing level advancement
and certificate/awards for each level.
TOTAL PROGRAM COST - $10,000 per school
TOTAL GRANT - $20,000
