Although I appreciate the efforts of Miami PD and they have always been very responsive, this is NOT a solution. Police cannot be on every corner, every day enforcing traffic laws and quite frankly, it is not a good use of our police force. Our police officers should be engaged in more serious crime prevention and patrolling activities. Therefore, again, I am requesting that you place Shenandoah residents on the agenda to discuss traffic, vehicular accidents and (traffic) calming devices. Lastly, since we all work, we would prefer to be placed on the late afternoon agenda. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any additional information. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you. Neill" <annatneill mail.com> Good evening Mr. Manager, We are a group of residents living in Shenandoah, specifically between SW 19th St. and Coral Way along SW 25th Ave. We have sent emails to our commissioner and the mayor regarding the excessive traffic in our neighborhood. For years, we have been asking for the city to help us. In the past year alone, we have had two serious accidents and today another one in which an individual is dead and six others injured. This doesn't account for every "near accident" we witness every morning and afternoon as cars speed and ignore traffic signs. Commuters drive through our neighborhood with little to no regard for the residents. Neighbors walk their children and dogs and it is getting to the point that we are afraid to walk in our neighborhood. Since our numerous requests and emails have remained unanswered, we would like to request that you schedule us for a presentation at a city commission meeting. I personally called the city clerk and was informed that the only way we can speak at a commission meeting is to submit a formal request to your office. Therefore, please consider this our request to be scheduled at a city commission meeting. Should you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you. The paper is calling this "a violent crash". Please remember that this is a residential area. I hate to say that I knew this was going to happen, but let's face it, we all knew it was just a matter of time. in fact, it is probably just a matter of time before a resident is seriously injured or killed by a reckless driver. We have been requesting a solution for years and it has sadly fallen on deaf ears. l am writing the city manager to get on a commission agenda so we can plead our case to the city. Enough is enough! Construction of the circles should have started Summer of 2006 (not 2015) and finished Fall of 2007 (not 2017). That is how long I've been writing the City about our traffic. Thank you. I have been emailing the City for years stressing the need for traffic calming devices along SW 24th Avenue and specifically SW 25th Avenue. Lazaro, attached is a highlighted list of traffic circles that should have been constructed starting the Summer of 2016 to have been completed in 2017. Specifically items 3 and 4 (SW 25th Avenue), item 8 (SW 24th Avenue). What happened to these? My last communication with the City was that it did not have funding for the circles, yet the City manages to have funding for so many other things. On more than one occasion accidents have occurred in the intersections running along SW 25th Avenue. How many more accidents have to happen and how many more people must be injured before the City finally listens and something is done? am again requesting a serious traffic study followed by immediate resolution of the speeding traffic along SW 24th Avenue and SW 25th Avenue (between SW 16th Street and Coral Way). It is long overdue. Thank you. Georgina Valdes and S. Madeleine Alvarez 2484 SW 19 Terrace Miami, FL 33145 On 3/23/2017 1:24 PM, Quintero, Lazaro wrote: I agree and I understand. If the intent of the email was to request enforcement, we are not looking to have a temporary police presence for this problem. Although grateful when they do enforcement, it isn't a solution. Realistically, police can only do this sporadically due to other more pressing issues. It provides a bandaid to this problem. This neighborhood deserves a solution from the city. Thank you. Attached please find photos taken this morning by my neighbors, their surveillance camera and myself. The car, grey Honda, did not obey the four-way stop sign and was driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver managed to hit a black SUV on the corner of SW 25th Ave and 20th Street and finally stopped after a head on collision with a van one block down. I wish I could tell you that excessive traffic and speeding cars are an isolated incident, but this is a daily occurrence. As a matter of fact, last year, another speeding driver crashed into my neighbor's car parked along side my Swale. Commuters are constantly driving through our neighborhood and speeding. We have no other recourse, but to turn to the city for help since these are public streets. What will it take to get the city do something? I believe that even you, as city elected officials, will admit that we have been very patient. We understand that due to the ongoing and never-ending Water and Sewer Department project that it does not make sense to do anything permanent, but as you know, this is nothing new. (That is the reason we have held off on submitting anything to the city.) However, I have noticed that two barricades have been placed between SW 37th Ave and 32 Ave on SW 16th Street at the end of the cemetery and leading to SW 8th St. How did these residents get this done? What we do have to do get some relief? Does a resident have to be the victim of a speeding car for the city to act? I am beyond upset and I can no longer stand by idly and wait for a tragedy. We can assure that our voices will be heard. We are requesting that the city place similar barricades blocking traffic through our neighborhood. We can schedule a meeting and discuss the placement of these barricades. Once the water/sewer project is finally completed, we can, as a neighborhood, discuss a long term solution, which may include a special taxing district. I hope our plea for help does not fall on deaf ears. I still believe that government exists to help its residents and develop solutions collaboratively that will enhance the quality of life for neighborhoods.
