Gt�V ov City of Miami Legislation Resolution Enactment Number: R-17-0059 File Number: 1650 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date:1/26/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO PRIORITIZE THE DEVELOPMENT AND ISSUANCE OF A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL RELATING TO THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW POLICE HEADQUARTERS FACILITY. WHEREAS, the City of Miami (City") is in need of a new police station; and WHEREAS, the current Miami Police Department ("MPD") headquarters building requires major repairs, renovations and remodeling to meet the current needs of a modern police station; and WHEREAS, in recent years the current MPD headquarters has experienced multiple failures and there is a need for a more permanent, safer and more sophisticated storage system; and WHEREAS, it shall be one of the highest priorities of the City Manager to develop a Request for Proposal ("RFP") for the construction of a new MPD headquarters facility; and WHEREAS, the RFP shall specify the size, design, general arrangement, parking requirements and sustainability features of the MPD Headquarters facility; and WHEREAS, the design of the new facility shall include specifications to ensure that evidence collected by the MPD shall be stored, maintained and preserved within the facility itself; and WHEREAS, the design shall be adequate and large enough to handle the volume of evidence, multiple servers and accommodate the growth of the MPD for the next several decades; and WHEREAS, the design and construction specifications of the RFP shall produce a state- of-the-art modern building at a location central to the City; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is directed to prioritize the development and issuance of a RFP relating to the design and construction of a new police headquarters facility. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.' If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
