This neighbohood is very dear to me and my family having spent the last fourty years this area. I am happy to see it become a great neighborhood for both residents and visitors. Over the course of more than fifty years when in the beginning Wyndwood was a familiar close knit community of mostly American families, eventually replaced by a diverse group of modest hard working immigrants. i came to Wyndwood in the late 60's through my parents who made Wyndwood their home raising my siblings and i there. We attended local schools like Buena Vista Elementary, Robert E. Lee and Miami Jackson Senior High until l left to serve in the US Army. Dur first home purchase in Wyndwood was in 1982 and with continued investment opportunies we are blessed to own multiple properties. We have seen Wyndwood evolve into an emergent and dynamic district. One in which i feel proud to be a part of. As we project on the future growth and development of Wyndwood the first consideration is to improve the quality of life for the local residents by doing the following: • Cleaning up the neighborhood • Clearing out empty lots • Assisting elderly long time residents (who have limited resources) by offering to clean up and paint along with limited landscaping assistance • insuring that absentee landlords are held accountable for maintenance of their properties, tenant selection and cooperation, especially in relation to local residents. • Improving security throughout the neighborhood. • Management of the homeless population by working to provide resources to lessen the level of vagrancy. Next we would like to see new ideas and construction in keeping with the character of the neighborhood. Inevitably Wynwood will have more options for multi unit density. Zoning should continue to be upgraded to include higher density housing options. Mixed use development would be ideal where people can work, play, and live without having to drive. Low rise lofts, townhomes, apartments and single family residences could distinguish Wyndwood from other nearby neighborhoods and maintain the trendy and hip personality of the neighborhood. As an owner of property in this neighborhood and someone who has lived in this community since 1973 I am happy to see the neighborhood progress. It is long overdue and we are finally seeing some change in this beautiful community. We would love to see more residential development, restaurants, grocery stores and retail stores that will bind the neighborhood and community together. (Additional Comments, if any): I believe that the requested rezoning can be partof a process to reinvigorate this deserving neighborhood that has great potential to be both a sustainable residential community and a viable economic area. Future development should always focus on traffic issues — the existing schools and senior center, and the families who live and will live here, need undisrupted safety and convenience. Development should also focus on reasonable housing reasonably priced so that existing and future residents will not be dislocated or priced out, but rather will be part of the renewal of a safe, attractive (as opposed to solely luxurious or trendy) neighborhood. My dream is for a creative, effective, community -enriching neighborhood plan — perhaps building on the concept of "Old San Juan Neighborhood" that was explored twenty -plus years ago. May this rezoning be a first step in an enhancing revitalization that does not reinforce existing problems nor destroy the existing family residential life.
