The Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) at the Fire College needs to be replaced. This site
houses the back-up communications system including police and fire dispatch, as well as the
9-11 system. It is of vital importance that this location has a functioning UPS in case there is a
dire need for relocating fire and police dispatch and E-911 from the police headquarters building.
Without a UPS, we will endure power outages at the Fire College which will damage the CAD
Server; that could ultimately impact the E911 phones and back-up First -in Alerting System.
It is imperative that fire and police be operable at all times in order to provide access to public
service for the community in which they serve.
Per the emergency procurement procedures as defined in Section 18-90 of the City Code,
authorization to waive a competitive bid process, the police department is requesting to procure
an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) system to replace the one at the Fire College.
Upon your approval, and pursuant to Section 18-90 of the City Code, an item will be prepared
for ratification of this emergency procurement for an upcoming Commission meeting.
