FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM 10: Daniel k All'onso, City Manager DA'L'E: August 31. ?017 FROM: Milton Vickers, Senior Advisor SUBJECT: $5,000 from District 3 Anti -Poverty to the City Manager on behalf initiative to Rotary Club of Miami, of Commissioner Carollo Inc, for Interact Club at Miami Senior High BACKGROUND The City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative to address poverty and focus on providing support to its residents. Rotary Club of Miami, Inc. (the organization) works together with its members to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies. The organization is made tlp of three parts which all work to make lasting change in our communities and around the world. Through the Interact Club, young people ages 12-18 develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Every year Interact clubs organize at least two prgjects to promote international understanding and help their school or community. As they are familiar with the needs of the community and requiremen€s imposed by the City, it would be advantageous to the City to expedite the allocation and waive procurement requirements at this time. Providing these funds to the organization will allow more youth to obtain these services immediately, with no added time for the procurement process, which could take over 30-40 days. RECOMMENDATION In light of the above stated, approval of a waiver of the formal requirements of competitive scaled bidding methods as not being practicable or advantageous to the City as set forth in the City Code of Ordinances, as amended, specifically Section 18-85 (A), and the affirniation of these written findings and the forwarding of the same to the City Commission for ratification by a four-fifths vote is respectfully requested.
