receive 20 hours of preservice training and four hours of These AmeriCorps

with activities of daily living, thereby giving the caregiver a break from the
24/7 strain of caregiving. Their presence connects the family to the wider
community. They are charged with bringing information to these
hornebound caregivers about community resources in support of their
caregiving efforts.
As part of this service each family receives a comprehensive evaluation,
support and case management services from a social worker. The social

worker assists the -family in accessing other supportive community resources
including but not limited to Medicaid long term care insurance, food stamps,
home delivered meals, etc. The social worker also provides counseling to
the caregivers so they learn how to cope with the various challenges
encountered during the provision of care.
