Allocating funds from the Fire Rescue Department, subject to the availability of funds and budgetary approval at the time of need. Background of Item: The Fire Rescue Department ("Fire") would like to reduce the cost of replacing its Emergency Medical Transport (EMT) fleet through a process called remounting. This process will be used to extend the life of the current EMT fleet. In this process, the module (patient compartment) of the ambulance, is removed from the chassis and cab section and then refurbished and upgraded. The refurbished module is then affixed to a new cab and chassis. This process will result in a savings of 40% to 50%, as compared to the purchase of a new EMT vehicle when the chassis and/or cab are in need of replacement. The module has a much longer lifespan than the chassis and cab, and therefore, is a viable cost savings option. Additionally, with this process, the refurbished module retains the original lifetime structural warranty provided by the manufacturer, Braun Industries, Inc. (Braun Custom Ambulances/Braun). Ten -8 Fire Equipment, Inc. is the only authorized dealer and service facility in the state of Florida for Braun Industries, Inc., and the sole source of Braun parts, warranty, sales, and service. Although, there may be other companies that can remount a Braun module onto a new cab and chassis, only Braun can continue the original factory lifetime warranty of the module. Pursuant to Section 18.92 (a) (1), Sole Source Contracts of the City's Procurement Code; a sole source is recommended for the above mentioned reasons.
