HomeMy WebLinkAboutAttachment BAttachment `B" Emergency Housing Relocation Program The City of Miami has allocated General Funds for the purpose of providing temporary emergency housing assistance to residential tenants within the City's jurisdiction being affected by the following: Forced to move either permanently or temporarily due as a result of condemnation of the dwelling unit by either the City's or County's building department and/or fire department due to unforeseen fire, man-made catastrophic events, natural disaster, weather-related circumstances, or lack of compliance to the City's or County's minimum standards code, building code or fire prevention code, in addition to permanent displaced due to property redevelopment (rehabilitation activities do not qualify) that affects a minimum of 10 housing units (i.e. 10 Single Family Homes -contiguous lots-, 5 duplexes contiguous lots- , 10 apartments units within a building, etc.). The program is designed to be available through a not-for-profit service provider ("Agency") in the community which may have other services available to complement the assistance the City emergency housing assistance program may offer. Certain City of Miami district(s) may decide to independently fund a community agency to facilitate the transition of those households affected. Additional Eligibility Requirements • Annual household income must not be more than 50% of the median area income. • Eligible households must contribute an amount equal to 30% of their monthly gross income OR the amount the household was paying for rent at time of relocation, whichever is higher. • The maximum allowable rent amount will be calculated as 120% of Fair Market Rents ("FMR") as issued annually by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Level of Assistance Maximum amount of assistance is 6 months of rent plus Security Deposit and Utility Service Deposit(s) required at move in. Any extension will be determined on a case-by- case basis with the approval of the Director or his assignee. The assistance will be provided in 3 month intervals. If the household were to need additional assistance, such household must be re -certified by the Agency at the end of the first period of assistance (usually at the end of the 3rd month). • Move Assistance Payment — A move assistance payment, based on either direct moving expenses or a fixed payment based on the number of rooms of furniture a resident has that must be moved, excluding bathrooms, closets, and hallways, will be available to eligible applicants to assist them in moving their personal property from the unsafe unit. # of rooms One room Two rooms Three rooms Four rooms Five rooms Six rooms Seven rooms Eight rooms Amount $300 $375 $450 $525 $600 $675 $750 $825 ** Families relocating outside the City of Miami are not eligible for the program. • Storage of Property Payment — If determined necessary by the Agency, storage of personal property is allowed for a period of 6 months, but not to exceed $ 2,500.
