STUDENT AMBASSADORS
In an effort to engage the community, The Department of Solid Waste rooks to create the "Keep
Miami Beautiful Student Ambassador" program. Through this program students will participate in
monthly projects and presentations geared towards community pride, beautification, environmental
awareness, and sustainability. The goal of the program is to involve students, their schools, and their
communities in an environmental cultural shift. The program will run for the period of 2 schools years.
This program will augment current Keep Miami Beautiful campaign efforts.
Student Recruitment $786.00
- The target group for the initial! launch will be students in grades 3-8 capable of some
independent work.
- Identify two schools from each district to participate
o Each school must be willing to host after school meetings, provide a staff member to
oversee group
Each student ambassador program should have 8-10 students
Students will be chosen based on interest, teacher recommendation, and essay

Proeram Kickoff $7,886.00
- The Keep Miami Beautiful Student Ambassador program will have a kickoff event at each
participating school
- City leaders should participate and address students for their leadership in sparking change
- A coinciding cleanup will take place in the neighborhood surrounding each school the week of
the program launch
- Students will be provided a starter kit ($33 per student) to include Keep Miami Beautiful
branded materials
o Club shirts ($20/shirt)
o Club notebooks/agendas ($5/book)
a Club branded pencils, rulers, etc. ($8)
a Marketing flyers ($50/schoo1)
10 schools x 20 students + starter kit costs $33 + marketing materials for kick off$50 = $7,100.00
10 schools x 4 hours per kick off planning x hourly rate ($19.65) = $786.00
Monthly_Meetings $19,537.00
- The Department of Solid Waste will have staff visit each school on a monthly basis

The Department of Solid Waste will develop age appropriate projects through the Keep America
Beautiful curriculum: "Waste in Place" as well as work hand in hand with school staff and
students
Students will be tasked with finding creative solutions to beautify their communities
If the school has an active PTA The Department of Solid Waste will partner with them to achieve
further success
The necessary supplies and materials will be provided to each ambassador group to aid in any
projects or presentations
o Posters, art supplies, etc (budget $6,000 to purchase any necessary supplies)
o Waste in place kit ($50/kit)
10 schools x 20 students x supply costs= * $6,000 budget
10 schools x 20 students x curriculum kit= $10,000
10 schools x 2 hours per meeting x 9 months x hourly rate ($19.65) _ $3537
School Recycling $12.215.00
- Ambassadors at each school will launch a recycling program with support and guidance from

The Department of Solid Waste will provide all necessary equipment, signage, and staff training
necessary to ensure program success
a Marketing/Educational materials (in kind, printing GSA)
o Recycling Receptacles (contracted amount not to exceed $45/ receptacle)
o Signage (in kind, printing GSA)
o Janitorial guide (in kind, created by The Department of Solid Waste)
a Receptacles for classrooms (contracted amount not to exceed $25/ receptacle)
o Receptacles for cafeterias (contracted amount not to exceed $100/ receptacle)
The Department of Solid Waste will facilitate with hauler for recycle service
10 schools x 10 hours per start up x hourly rate ($19.65) _ $1,965.00
10 schools x receptacle costs= $10,250.00
■ Estimate 25 receptacles for classrooms x 10 schools= $6,250.00
• Estimate 4 receptacles per cafeteria x 10 schools= $4,000.00
Community Partnerships and Grants $6,786.00
- The Department of Solid Waste will work with the Grants Office to continuously identify
opportunities for the schools and their surrounding communities
The Carton Council of America has shown interest in the student ambassador program and will
aid in recycling cartons resulting from school meals. The Carton Council also has grants available
to help schools recycle and engage their students
Dream in Green offers workshops geared towards living sustainably on a day to day basis. One
DIG workshop the program will help engage not only the students, but also staff and parents.
10 schools x 4 hours x hourly rate ($19.65) + workshop cost ($6,000) _ $6,786.00

- After a period of one school year (September- May) each group will be recognized for their
efforts.

beautification and presented with a banner to display on school grounds
