A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION SUPPORTING, PARTNERING AND
AUTHORIZING THE CO-SPONSORSHIP OF THE STREET ART FOR MANKIND EVENT TO
FURTHER THE FIGHT AGAINST CHILD SLAVERY TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FROM NOVEMBER 4, 2016 THROUGH NOVEMBER 13, 2016.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION SUPPORTING, PARTNERING
AND AUTHORIZING THE CO-SPONSORSHIP OF THE STREET ART FOR MANKIND
EVENT TO FURTHER THE FIGHT AGAINST CHILD SLAVERY TO BE HELD IN THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FROM NOVEMBER 4, 2016 THROUGH NOVEMBER 13, 2016.
WHEREAS, Street Art for Mankind ("SAM"), a charity based in the City of Miami
("City"), has an event scheduled to occur from November 4, 2016 to November 13,
2016; and
WHEREAS, SAM works with the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash
Satyarthi to raise awareness and fund the struggle to combat issues affecting children
around the world including lack of access to education, medical care, and exploitation
as slave labor; and
WHEREAS, roughly 168 million children are forced into hard labor around the
world, with 85 million of them being subjected to slave labor conditions; and
WHEREAS, SAM has set up five (5) events around the world to occur in Miami,
Florida; Paris, France; Seoul, South Korea; Sao Paolo, Brazil; and Dubai, United Arab
Emirates, to increase awareness of and raise funds to prevent exploitation through
slave labor throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, the event in the City will include artisans creating 12,000 square feet
of murals, children's events and artistic creations that will eventually be sold after its five
(5) city tour to raise funds for the Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation; and
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the City to partner and assist with this cause to
help further the fight against child slave labor worldwide;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution
are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission hereby supports, partners and co-sponsors the
Street Art for Mankind event to further the fight against child slavery to be held in the
City from November 4, 2016 through November 13, 2016.

1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten
(10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this
Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City
Commission.
