HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-16-0411Vop City of Miami Legislation < U R �O Resolution: R-16-0411 File Number: 16-01218 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 9/8/2016 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), WAIVING THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENTAND FIRE RESCUE DEPARTMENT COSTS REQUIRED PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-6.3(c)(18) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), ENTITLED "CRITERIA FOR ISSUANCE OF SPECIAL EVENTS PERMIT", AND SECTION 19-9 OF THE CITY CODE, ENTITLED "SPECIAL OFF-DUTY FIRE -RESCUE SERVICES", FOR THE MIAMI TUNNEL 2 TOWERS 5K RUN/WALK & CLIMB WITH AN EXPOSITION TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2016 AT BAYFRONT PARK TO HONOR THE VICTIMS AND FIRST RESPONDERS OF THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 TERRORIST ATTACKS. WHEREAS, the Miami Tunnel 2 Towers 5K Run/Walk & Climb with an Exposition ("Event") is an event scheduled for September 18, 2016 to honor the victims and first responders of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks; and WHEREAS, the Event will provide not only the race and climb but will provide an educational exposition and honor those from our community, such as the Urban Search and Rescue Team Task Force 1 & 2 who were deployed to New York after the terrorist attacks; and WHEREAS, the Event is being held in cooperation and in conjunction with the Miami -Dade Police Department, Miami -Dade Fire Rescue Department, City of Miami Police Department ("MPD"), City of Miami Fire Rescue Department ("Fire Rescue"), Miami Beach Police Department, Miami Beach Fire Rescue Department, Florida Highway Patrol, Port Miami, Miami Access Tunnel, and Florida Department of Transportation, among others; and WHEREAS, the Special Events Detail costs for the required support of the MPD and Fire Rescue is estimated to be $22,196.00 and $9,479.15, respectively, and is a financial burden for the Event; and WHEREAS, the costs are imposed by Section 54-6.3(c)(18) and Section 19-9 of the City Code and waiving the associated costs will result in a negligible financial impact to the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The MPD and Fire Rescue costs required pursuant to Section 54-6.3 and Section 19-9 of the City Code, entitled "Criteria for Issuance of Special Event Permit", for the Event to be held on September 18, 2016 at Bayfront Park to honor the victims and first responders of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, are waived. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {1} Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
