A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING
SOUTHWEST 15TH AVENUE FROM SOUTHWEST 7TH STREET TO SOUTHWEST
8TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDAAS "AZUCAR AVENUE" AND CLARIFYING
EXISTING CODESIGNATIONS; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED
OFFICES.
WHEREAS, Little Havana's tourism industry and importance as a cultural destination continues
to grow; and
WHEREAS, Celia Cruz was a beloved Cuban -American singer and one of the most popular
salsa performers of all time being well known for, among other things, her signature catchphrase,
"IAzucar!"; and
WHEREAS, Celia Cruz's cultural achievements in the entertainment field merit the
codesignation of a street in Little Havana to accompany her star on the Calle Ocho Walk of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission wishes to honor Calle Ocho for its history, culture and
distinction as a place for visitors from around the world by designating an avenue in Little Havana with
the phrase "IAzucar!"; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission codesignates Southwest 15th Avenue from Southwest 7th
Street to Southwest 8th Street, Miami, Florida as "Azbcar Avenue".
Section 3. The City Commission clarifies that the existing codesignation of "Avenida Luis
Munoz. Marin" is to be 15th Avenue from Northwest 1st Street to Southwest 2nd Street, Miami, Florida
in order to comply with the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended.
Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the City of Miami
Police Department, the Fire -Rescue Department, Solid Waste Department, Miami -Dade County
Department of Transportation and Public Works, and the United States Postal Service.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature
of the Mayor. {1}
