HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-16-0314Vop City of Miami ' Legislation < U R �O Resolution: R-16-0314 File Number: 16-00958 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 7/14/2016 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DECLARING NO OBJECTION AND SUPPORTING THE CODESIGNATION BY THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE, PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 2014-228, DESIGNATING NORTHEAST 73RD STREET FROM NORTHEAST 2ND AVENUE TO NORTHEAST 3RD COURT, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "REVEREND WILNER MAXY STREET"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, DISTRICT SIX, FOR SIGN INSTALLATION WITHIN THE NEWLY DESIGNATED ROADWAY. WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature, during its 2014 session, passed Chapter 2014-228, approving, inter alia, several road designations, including a designation for Reverend Wilner Maxi; and WHEREAS, Reverend Wilner Maxy began his ministry in 1976 and was ordained as Pastor of Haitian Emmanuel Baptist Church ("Church") in 1983 at the Church's original location at Northwest 4th Avenue and Northwest 77th Street, Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, the Church subsequently moved to a location at 7321 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, Reverend Wilner Maxy currently has a congregation of 1,300 parishioners; and WHEREAS, the Wilner Maxy Community Center was established in 2012 with a youth program for one hundred (100) students, an afterschool program for children aged six 6 through 15, and an elderly program with seventy-five (75) participants; and WHEREAS, on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, Reverend Maxy hosts a Pastoral Fellowship Program with forty (40) Baptist Pastors from the community; and WHEREAS, the Church has built over eight (8) churches in Haiti in the following locations: Port-au-Prince, Arcahaie, Gonafves, Moreau (La Valle6 de Jacmel) - (School K-6), Gerard (L6ogane), St. Louis -du -Nord (K-6), Ballade (Near Port-de-Paix) (K-9) and Terrir - Rouge Near Cap -Haitian; and WHEREAS, the Church has also created water wells for three (3) areas in Haiti and a "funeral program" established in 1993 hosted by Caballero Funeral Home to help Church members who have a hardship; and WHEREAS, Reverend Wilner Maxy has been the Pastor of the Church for thirty (30) years; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: City of Miand Page 1 of 2 File Id. 16-00958 (Version: 2) Printed On: 5/14/2018 File Number: 16-00958 Enactment Number: R-16-0314 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission declares no objection and supports the codesignation by the Florida Legislature, pursuant to Chapter 2014-228, Laws of Florida, designating Northeast 73rd Street from Northeast 2nd Avenue to Northeast 3rd Court, Miami, Florida, as "Reverend Wilner Maxy Street". Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly codesignated roadways. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1} Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
