HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-16-0172Vop City of Miami '"* Legislation < U R �O Resolution: R-16-0172 File Number: 16-00438 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 4/14/2016 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ALLOCATING GRANT FUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT 4 SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $30,000.00 BY ALLOCATING $15,000.00 TO LINDSEY HOPKINS TECHNICAL COLLEGE AND $15,000.00 TO D.A. DORSEY TECHNICAL COLLEGE FOR TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DISTRICT 4 RESIDENTS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM ACCOUNT NO. 00001.98000.882000.0000.00000. WHEREAS, the City Commission created the Anti -Poverty Initiative to assist low-income residents within the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, the City Commission approved the establishment of Accounts for the five (5) City Commission districts for the sole purpose of allocating Anti -Poverty Initiative Funds to said districts; and WHEREAS, Lindsey Hopkins Technical College ("Lindsey Hopkins"), a technical education college of the Miami -Dade County Public Schools, whose address is 750 Northwest 20 Street, Miami, Florida provides adult trade skills job training programs; and WHEREAS, D.A. Dorsey Technical College ("D.A. Dorsey"), a technical education college of the Miami -Dade County Public Schools, whose address is 7100 Northwest 17 Avenue, Miami, Florida, provides adult trade skills job training programs; and WHEREAS, the City and the School Board of Miami -Dade County ("School Board") intend to assist residents that may not be able to afford an educational program to acquire skill sets needed to increase access to jobs; and WHEREAS, the District 4 Commissioner desires to assist residents of District 4 by providing scholarships to attend Lindsey Hopkins and D.A. Dorsey; and WHEREAS, the City desires to allocate $15,000.00 to the Lindsey Hopkins scholarship fund for District 4 residents and $15,000.00 to the D.A. Dorsey scholarship fund for District 4 residents for a total of $30,000.00 from the District 4 share of the City's Anti -Poverty Initiative Program, Account No. 00001.98000.882000.0000.00000; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. The allocation of funds from the District 4 share of the City's Anti -Poverty Initiative in the total amount of $30,000.00 by allocating $15,000.00 to Lindsey Hopkins Technical College and $15,000.00 to D.A. Dorsey Technical College for training scholarships for District 4 residents, is authorized, with funds allocated from Account No. 00001.98000.882000.0000.00000. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute any and all documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney. for said purpose. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
