HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-16-0144Vop City of Miami W F .. is,.,"�, * Legislation i 0 R �O Resolution: R-16-0114 File Number: 16-00322 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 3/11/2016 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER TO IDENTIFY ALL UNZONED LAND THAT CAN BE ASSIGNED PARK SPACE WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI WITH THE DIRECTIVE TO ASSIGN THE UNZONED LAND AS PARK SPACE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami provides as a quality of life function parks and recreational spaces for the benefit of our residents; and WHEREAS, residents within the City of Miami rely on parks to serve as public spaces for enjoyment, exercise and numerous other activities; and WHEREAS, the Trust for Public Land ("TPL") in 2015 identified Miami as a High -Density City with a below-average number of park space, at 6.3 percent parkland space, Miami is 6 points below the median of High -Density Cities within the TPL study; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami through the City Manager, the Department of Planning and Zoning, and the Department of Parks and Recreation should compile a list identifying all unzoned land that can be zoned public parks and recreation civic spaces within the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission when presented with these unzoned spaces which can serve as public parks, through planning and zoning items, can discuss and vote on assigning and classifying these spaces as park land and civic space; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission requests the City Manager to identify all unzoned land that can be assigned public park space within the City of Miami with the directive to assign the unzoned land as park space. Section 3. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
