HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationFile Number: 16-00274 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "SRO - TRUANCY REDUCTION PROJECT MIAMI FY16" AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $37,243.00, CONSISTING OF A SUBGRANITAWARD FROM THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT, TO BE UTILIZED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT TO FUND SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROJECTS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") is committed to reducing truancy in and around the schools located within the City's boundaries; and WHEREAS, the City's Police Department's School Resource Officers ("SRO") conduct monthly truancy operations aimed at identifying truants within the City and provide them with an educational and training program utilizing a team building component; and WHEREAS, SROs focus their operational efforts on middle and high school age truants located in the City; and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement ("FDLE") has awarded an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant ("JAG") subgrant to the City in the amount of $37,243.00 to fund the SRO - Truancy Reduction Program Miami FY16; and WHEREAS, the grant will provide funding for additional operational support to the City's SROs and access to Florida International University's Team Ropes Adventure Challenge (TRAC) Program; and WHEREAS, the award does not require any local match; and WHEREAS, said grant program is for the period of October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2016; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute an agreement, in substantially the attached form, and all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement the acceptance and administration of said grant. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: �9 VICTORIA MENDEZ CITYATTORNEY \ -7 Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
