QR Application Received: 8/5/2015 CITY OF MIAMI PLANNING DEPARTMENT STAFF REPORT To: Members of the City Commission From: Quatisha Oguntoyinbo-Rashad Chief of Environmental Resources Applicant: CITY OF MIAMI / PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Subject Property: Median along NE 6' Court between 57 and 58' Street Permit Application: 15-194 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Tree Permit request for the removal of two (2) non-native trees located in the public right-of-way BACKGROUND: Currently, the subject location has two (2) Monkey Pod (Samanea saman) trees that have been planting without the required authorization from the City of Miami. In addition, the species has been planting multiple times, without authorization, due to the trees not sustaining viability. Monkey Pod trees are non-native trees that are well suited for large public areas such as parks, school grounds, etc. and large homesteads. They are not suitable for confined areas such as the median where they are currently located. The Public Works Departments has plans to remove the trees and replant with a more suitable species that's native and appropriate for the area. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: The Planning and Zoning Departments recommends that the application for a removal and replacement of the two (2) Monkey Pod trees be Approved. HEPB- October 6, 2015 Page 1 of 1
