Overtown Community Oversight Board (OCOB)

Whether the board is serving the purpose for which it was created:
During 2017, the board met during the months of September and October. The Board did not
have an official liaison during the months of January through August. In November, the liaison
became unable to perform regular duties for the board and they did not meet from the rest
of the year.
II. Whether the board is serving current community needs:
The Overtown Community Oversight Board did not meet regularly during 2017 and were
unable to fully meet the needs for the area.
III. A list of the board's major accomplishments:
The only accomplishment made by the Board during this tenure was an outreach agreement
made between OCOB and i-395 expansion project coordinators.
IV. Whether there is any other board, either public or private, which would better serve the
function of the board:
No, there is no other board either public or private that would better serve the function of
the City Miami Overtown Community Oversight Board.
V. Whether the ordinance creating the board should be amended to better enable the board
to serve the purpose for which it was created:
Yes, per previous correspondence, the Board recommends that the ordinance creating the
board should be amended to better enable the board to serve the purpose for which it was
created. The Board also requested City funds to better support the activities and outreach
needed to carry out the overall mission.
VI. Whether the board's membership requirements should be modified:
No, the requirements for the Board should not be modified.
VII. The cost, both direct and indirect, of maintaining the board:
In 2017, the OCOB did not incur a cost, nor was the board given a budget. The board has
requested funds to secure marketing materials and other supportive items.
