Final Action Date:
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
URGING THE HOTELS, MOTELS, AND OTHER ESTABLISHMENTS PROVIDING
LODGING FOR TRAVELERS AND TOURISTS WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI TO
PARTICIPATE IN THE "THE ENVELOPE PLEASE" INITIATIVE BY PROVIDING
ENVELOPES IN ROOMS REMINDING GUESTS TO EXPRESS THEIR GRATITUDE
BY LEAVING TIPS FOR HOUSEKEEPERS.
WHEREAS, "The Envelope Please" is an economic empowerment initiative to encourage guests at
hotels, motels, and other establishments providing lodging for travelers and tourists ("Lodging"), to tip
the housekeepers who clean their rooms; and
WHEREAS, "The Envelope Please" initiative was launched by Maria Shriver and A Woman's
Nation, which is a nonprofit organization focused on the values, needs, and well-being of women and
their families; and
WHEREAS, while other Lodging employees such as valet personnel may have more face time with
guests, housekeepers typically clean while guests are out of the room and are at risk of having their
work overlooked in terms of receiving tips; and
WHEREAS, over ten (10) Lodging brands have joined the "The Envelope Please" initiative; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, a nonprofit organization dedicated to
marketing local areas as tourist destinations, supports the "The Envelope Please" initiative; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Miami & the Beaches Hotel Association, an organization that includes
more than 160 member Lodging brands across the county, supports the "The Envelope Please"
initiative; and
WHEREAS, the cities of Doral and Miami Beach have already passed similar resolutions; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of the City of Miami ("City") to
support the "The Envelope Please" initiative and work to change the hospitality culture;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings set forth in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted
by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission hereby urges the Lodging establishments within the City to.
participate in the "The Envelope Please" initiative by providing envelopes in rooms reminding guests to
express their gratitude by leaving tips for housekeepers.

Section 3. The Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}

Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
