Subject: Piggyback -Spoil Island Maintenance Services, 8448-0/18
Purpose of Item:
The nature of this item is to establish a resolution authorizing access to utilize the existing Miami -Dade County Spoil
Island. Maintenance Services Contract No. 8448-0/18, pursuant to Section 1.8-111 of the Code of the City of Miami, with
Madson, Inc. which was competitively solicited for five years and will expire on March 31, 2018, subject to any
extensions and/or replacement contracts by Miami -Dade County; allocating funds from the Parks and Recreation (Parks)
Department General Fund, subject to availability of funds and budgetary approval at the time of need.
Background Information:
Parks has identified a need for providing Spoil Island Maintenance Services. A spoil island is an island created by
dredging along a waterway. These spoil islands usually appear in bays, inlets, lagoons and other sheltered waterways in
Florida, and are only accessible by water. Parks is responsible for the maintenance and up -keep of the City's spoil islands,
and accessing of the Miami -Dade County Contract No. 8448-0/18 will enable Parks to utilize an approved vendor with the
necessary equipment needed to provide the maintenance service. The contract was originally awarded to two vendors;
however, due to some performance issues with one of the awardees, there is now one vendor providing the services. This
is a five year contract that will expire on March 31, 2018. The estimated fiscal impact for the contract term (through
March 31, 2018) is $150,000.
