HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-15-0426Vop City of Miami '"* Legislation < U R �O Resolution: R-15-0426 File Number: 15-01261 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 9/24/2015 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION BY FOUR-FIFTHS (4/5THS) AFFIRMATIVE VOTE, ALLOCATING GRANT FUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT 1 SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE PROGRAM, ACCOUNT NO. 00001.98000.882000.0000.00000, IN ATOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $203,094.00, FOR AN EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE PROGRAM OPERATED BY THE MIAMI BAYSIDE FOUNDATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE PROGRAM, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY. WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 14-0362, adopted September 23, 2014, at a public hearing, the City Commission approved an allocation of funds in the amount of $1.25 million for the newly created City of Miami ("City") Anti -Poverty Initiative Program; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 15-0106, adopted March 12, 2015, the City Commission approved the establishment of accounts for the five (5) City Commission districts, for the sole purpose of allocating Anti -Poverty Initiative Funds to said districts, utilizing the proportionate percentage of poverty levels based on the five (5) year poverty rate determined by the American Community Survey, as adjusted annually; and WHEREAS, it is desired that grant funds from the District 1 share of the City's Anti -Poverty Initiative Program, Account No. 00001.98000.882000.0000.00000, in a total amount not to exceed $203,094.00 ("Funds"), be allocated to a scholarship program for education assistance to District 1 Residents ("Scholarship Program") operated by The Miami Bayside Foundation ("Sponsor"); and WHEREAS, the City will allocate the Funds in the total amount not to exceed $203,094.00 for applicants who are in need of monetary assistance for higher education and will apply through the Sponsor who already has acceptable guidelines in place; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. By a four-fifths (4/5ths) affirmative vote, grant funds from the District 1 share of the City's Anti -Poverty Initiative Program, Account No. 00001.98000.882000.0000.00000, in a total amount not to exceed $203,094.00, are allocated for the Scholarship Program operated by the City of Miand Page 1 of 2 File Id. 15-01261 (Version: 1) Printed On: 3/23/2018 File Number: 15-01261 Sponsor. Enactment Number: R-15-0426 Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute any and all documents necessary to effectuate the Program, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. {2} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions.
