Date: 08/7/2015 Requesting Department: Office of Grants Administration Commission Meeting Date: 09/10/2015 District Impacted: Citywide Type: Z Resolution ❑ Ordinance ❑ Emergency Ordinance ❑ Discussion Item ❑ Other Subject: Purpose of Item: A resolution of the Miami City commission authorizing the City Manager to accept grant funds from the South Florida Workforce Investment Board D/B/A Career Source South Florida ("SFWIB") in a total amount not to exceed $2,090,494.00 ("Grant") for the operation of the Miami Career Center ("Center") at the Lindsey Hopkins Educational Center located at 750 Northwest 20 street, Miami, Florida; establishing a new special revenue project entitled: "South Florida Workforce Investment Board grant for workforce initiatives 2015-2016 to accept the grant and appropriating the grant in an amount not to exceed $2,090,4.94.00; further authorizing the city manager to negotiate and execute a fixed rate contract with cost reimbursement grant components with SFVVIB, in substantially the attached form, and to negotiate and execute all other necessary amendments, extensions, renewals, and modifications, in a form acceptable to the city attorney, to implement the acceptance of and compliance with the grant award for said purposes, for the period commencing July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016, with the options to renew for two (2) additional like periods at the same not -to -exceed amounts under the same terms and conditions for the center, subject to budgetary approval at time of need. Director t Chief tIt f-�) ! / j Cit Manager_ Pagel of 2 5 Background Information: Considering the employment indicators in the City of Miami, the City in 2013 opened a career center at the Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center located at 750 NW 20th Street, 4th Floor to have direct access to job opportunities as well as maintain our current economic advantage in the government, tourism, and educational sectors. To develop this workforce within City limits, the City of Miami is taking a proactive role to advance low income, dislocated, and public benefit recipients on the path to self-sufficiency by providing comprehensive workforce services at this Center. The Center is funded by South Florida Workforce Investment Board ("SFWIB") to provide services to job seekers and local businesses. The SFWIB funding is utilized for program and administration expenditures related to the provision of workforce services as well as for training and supportive services for program participants. In February 2014, South Florida Workforce Investment Board changed its name to CareerSource South Florida.
