HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-15-0358Vop City of Miami F .. , 'Ir* Legislation i 0 R �O Resolution: R-15-0358 File Number: 15-00906 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 9/10/2015 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING AND A COMMUNITY SPACE LEASE AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF LEASING COMMUNITY SPACE LOCATED WITHIN THE LIBERTY SQUARE PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT FOR USE BY THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT AS AN ON-SITE POLICE OFFICE. WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County ("County") owns and operates a public housing development commonly known as the Liberty Square Public Housing Development ("Liberty Square") located within the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, as a result of increased criminal activity within and around Liberty Square, the County and City wish to provide a greater law enforcement presence in the area; and WHEREAS, the County and the City believe this law enforcement presence will serve as a deterrent against criminal activity within and around Liberty Square; and WHEREAS, the County desires to provide space at Liberty Square to the City, through its police department for use as an on-site police office; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized {1} to execute a Memorandum of Understanding and a Community Space Lease Agreement, in substantially the attached form, with the County for the purpose of leasing community space located within the Liberty Square Public Housing Development for use by the City Police Department as an on-site police office. Section 3. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
