HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislations %City of Miami City Hall 3500 Pan American f+Na Drive bx_ Legislate®n Miami FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Resolution File Number: 15-01123 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), URGING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT AND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND THE FLORIDA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO SUPPORT THE ISSUES ADOPTED AS THE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI DURING THE 2016 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TRANSMITA COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE APPROPRIATE ELECTED OFFICIALS. WHEREAS, municipal self-determination and local self-government are constantly under pressure from a variety of public and private interests; and WHEREAS, a majority of Florida's cities have experienced negative impacts to construction, property values and the employment base as a result of the global economic slowdown; and WHEREAS, sea -level rise is a direct threat to the welfare of communities across South Florida and immediate action, as described in the Miami -Dade Sea Level Rise Task Force report, is necessary to preserve Floridians' quality of life; and WHEREAS, Florida's municipalities are dependent on other governmental entities for financial stability and support; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami has identified its 2016 legislative priority items and requests the support of the Florida Legislature regarding these issues; and. WHEREAS, Governor Rick Scott and Florida's House and Senate leaders have an opportunity to address the concerns of the City of Miami and other municipalities during the upcoming 2016 legislative session; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Resolution. Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Rick Scott and the members of the Florida Legislature and Florida Congressional Delegation to support the issues adopted as the legislative priorities for the City of Miami, attached and incorporated, during the 2016 legislative session. Section 3. The Miami City Commission further authorizes the City Manager to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the appropriate elected officials. Section 4.
