YOUNG ARTIST INITIATIVE
AND TEEN PROGRAMS
ICA Miami provides a unique service in the
Miami region and internationally for its
focus on cultivating advanced literacy among
teenagers and adults.
Classes are led primarily by artist -educators who develop curricula
that write the history of contemporary art. ICA Miami's collection
and programs provide a foundation for classroom activity and a
learning tool. Programs aim to increase literacy and understanding
of contemporary art, and facilitate experimental methods of creating
and interpreting works of art.
ICA Miami's Young Artists Initiative is a selective arts program for
young artists (ages 13-17) in which students learn to perceptively
view art, develop critical thinking skills, publicly communicate ideas
about art and have the unique opportunity to engage and learn from
the museum's exhibiting artists.
Students have the opportunity to participate in art history classes,
interact with exhibiting artists, visit collections and artist studios,
develop an online forum to discuss contemporary art concepts and
exhibit work. Annual summer programs include an intensive artist -
in -residence program and a trip to a culturally rich city in the U.S. to
meet with recognized artists, visit museums, collections and university
arts programs.

BEST OF MIAMI 2015BEST ART MUSEUM

Grab your plutonium, rev that engine to 88 mph, and hang on tight: Best of Miami 2015 is almost
here! Here's a preview of one of the winners, but check out the entire issue when it hits

Last year's public feud between the City of North Miami and the board of its Museum of
Contemporary Art got ugly. But at least it had a happy ending: the addition of the Institute of
Contemporary Art to Miami's ever -evolving art scene. Founded by former MOCA board
members and staff, the ICA opened with a bang during Art Basel 2014, showcasing the
politically charged works of New York artist Andra Ursuta alongside an immersive
installation, Sanatorium, for which Mexican artist Pedro Reyes trained local volunteers to
offer free "therapy" to museum visitors. Participants engaged in everything from theater
warm-up exercises to hypnosis, creating one of the most unforgettable events to take place
during Miami Art Week last year. The ICA also showed off its commitment to Miami by
opening its exhibitions to area schoolchildren before the general public. And all of this went
down at the Moore Building in the Design District, an area that in recent years has been better
known for designer shopping than boundary -pushing art. Oh, and did we mention admission
is free?
