HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-17-0546City of Miami Legislation Resolution R-17-0546 File Number: 3054 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 11/16/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT, ENTITLED "FY 2018 MIAMI DUI CHECKPOINT AND SATURATION PATROL OVERTIME PROJECT," AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $80,000.00 TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT AND TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") submitted a grant application to the Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") to fund highway safety initiatives in the City; and WHEREAS, the City received notification that said application was approved for funding in an amount not to exceed $80,000.00 ("Grant"); and WHEREAS, the Grant will be used by the Miami Police Department to fund monthly Driving Under the Influence ("DUI") checkpoint operations and saturation patrols to prevent impaired driving related traffic crashes and fatalities in the City and enhance the City's enforcement efforts and deterrence capabilities; and WHEREAS, there are no match funds required for acceptance of this Grant; and WHEREAS, the City Manager is requesting authorization to accept the Grant and to establish a new Special Revenue Project for the appropriation of said award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized' to accept said Grant and execute the necessary documents, in substantially the attached form, to implement acceptance of said Grant. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: 1 i ria i ' ndez, City Attor iey 11/6/2017 ' The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
