HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-17-0539City of Miami Legislation Resolution R-17-0539 File Number: 3261 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 11/16/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO DEVELOP AND ISSUE AN ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY THAT ESTABLISHES A UNIFORM PROCEDURE FOR CITY STAFF TO ADHERE TO WHEN ENGAGING WITH AND CONDUCTING OFFICIAL CITY BUSINESS WITH LOBBYISTS. WHEREAS, Section 2-654 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code"), prohibits any person from lobbying a City of Miami ("City") official, a City board member, the City Manager, or City staff until they have registered pursuant to the same section; and WHEREAS, Section 2-654(e) of the City Code requires that the Mayor, all members of the City Commission, all members of City boards, the City Manager, and City staff be diligent in ascertaining that persons required to register as lobbyists have complied with lobbyist registration requirements by requesting records of compliance from the City Clerk; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City and its employees to establish a clear and uniform policy that ensures the continued compliance of City staff with the requirements in Section 2-654 of the City Code; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is directed to develop and issue an Administrative Policy that establishes a uniform procedure for City staff to adhere to when engaging with and conducting official City business with lobbyists. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.'
