HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-17-0366opCity of Miami 1 i.RR cl Legislation alldl 1 l + Resolution R-17-0366 File Number: 2657 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 7/27/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION PURSUANT TO SECTION 18-82(A) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, CLASSIFYING ONE (1) FIRE PUMPER TRUCK, ONE (1) QUINT FIRE TRUCK, AND ONE (1) FIRE RESCUE TRUCK ("FIRE VEHICLES"), AS MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED IN EXHIBIT "A," ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED, AS CATEGORY "A" SURPLUS STOCK AND DONATING SAID FIRE VEHICLES TO THE CITIES OF SANTO DOMINGO AND SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC TO ASSIST WITH THE RESOURCES NEEDED TO RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES AND PROVIDE CRITICAL LIFE- SUSTAINING CAPABILITIES DURING NATURAL DISASTERS IN THESE IMPOVERISHED AREAS; THIS DONATION BECOMING EFFECTIVE UPON THE EXECUTION OF THE APPROPRIATE RELEASE DOCUMENTS. WHEREAS, Santo Domingo is the largest city in the Dominican Republic with a population of more than three (3) million; however, it has an extremely limited number of emergency response vehicles; and WHEREAS, the city of San Pedro de Macoris has a population of more than 200,000, is the fifth largest city in the Dominican Republic, and currently has one (1) fire truck that is about to be decommissioned due to its deteriorated condition and lack of capabilities; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") and the people of the Dominican Republic have fostered a great relationship and collaborated in numerous projects over the years including the City's assistance to the citizens of the Dominican Republic in critical times of need; and WHEREAS, the City's Fire -Rescue Department has recently decommissioned several emergency response vehicles including one (1) fire pumper truck, one (1) quint fire truck, and one (1) fire rescue vehicle ("Fire Vehicles"); and WHEREAS, Section 18-82(a) of the Code of the City of Miami, as amended ("City Code"), entitled "Disposal of Surplus City -Owned Personal Property," provides that surplus property declared as Category "A" surplus stock shall be available for disposition as the City's contribution or the City's commitment in support of a particular public purpose, which may include community, civic, or social service programs as may be authorized by the City Commission; and WHEREAS, the City's Chief Procurement Officer has declared the Fire Vehicles as Category "A" surplus stock pursuant to Section 18-82(a) of the City Code; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to donate the Fire Vehicles to Santo Domingo and San Pedro de Macoris in order to alleviate the critical need for emergency response capabilities; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 2657 (Revision:) Printed On: 11/30/2017 File ID: 2657 Enactment Number: R-17-0366 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Pursuant to Section 18-82(a), of the City Code, the Fire Vehicles, as more particularly described in Exhibit "A," attached and incorporated, are classified as Category "A" surplus stock. Section 3. The Fire Vehicles are hereby donated to the cities of Santo Domingo and San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic to assist with the resources needed to respond to emergencies and natural disasters in these impoverished areas. Section 4. This donation shall become effective immediately upon the execution of the appropriate release documents. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.'
