HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-17-0365opCity of Miami 1 i.RR cl Legislation alldl 1 l + Resolution R-17-0365 File Number: 2646 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 7/27/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION PURSUANT TO SECTION 18-82(A) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, CLASSIFYING TEN (10) VEHICLES AND FOUR (4) PIECES OF INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT, AS MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED IN EXHIBIT "A," ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED, AS CATEGORY "A" SURPLUS STOCK AND DONATING SAID VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT TO THE CITY OF PORT-AU- PRINCE, HAITI FOR A HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS INITIATIVE AND TO FURTHER ASSIST PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI WITH THE RESOURCES NEEDED TO DEAL WITH SIGNIFICANT NATURAL DISASTERS; THIS DONATION BECOMING EFFECTIVE UPON THE EXECUTION OF THE APPROPRIATE RELEASE DOCUMENTS. WHEREAS, on January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake hit the island of Haiti, approximately ten (10) miles southwest of the City of Port-au-Prince, which suffered significant damage to its municipal infrastructure; and WHEREAS, as a result of the widespread damage to Haiti's population and infrastructure, the City of Miami ("City") Department of Fire -Rescue's Urban Search and Rescue Team was deployed to the island and was successful in conducting numerous search and rescue operations; and WHEREAS, the City's Department of General Services Administration ("GSA") has recently decommissioned ten (10) vehicles and four (4) pieces of industrial equipment ("Vehicles and Equipment"); and WHEREAS, Section 18-82(a) of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code"), entitled "Disposal of Surplus City -Owned Personal Property," provides that surplus property declared as Category "A" surplus stock shall be available for disposition as the City's contribution or the City's commitment in support of a particular public purpose, which may include community, civic, or social service programs as may be authorized by the City Commission; and WHEREAS, the City's Chief Procurement Officer has declared the Vehicles and Equipment as Category "A" surplus stock pursuant to Section 18-82(a) of the City Code; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to donate the Vehicles and Equipment to assist in augmenting the disaster response capabilities of Port -Au -Prince; and WHEREAS, the donation of the Vehicles and Equipment will serve to directly improve Port -Au -Prince's disaster response capabilities, as well as augment any City search and rescue efforts in the event of such disasters; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 2646 (Revision: A) Printed On: 11/28/2017 File ID: 2646 Enactment Number: R-17-0365 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Pursuant to Section 18-82(a) of the City Code, the Vehicles and Equipment, as more particularly described in Exhibit "A," attached and incorporated, are classified as "Category A" surplus stock. Section 3. The Vehicles and Equipment are hereby donated to Port -Au -Prince for a hurricane preparedness Initiative and to further assist Port -Au -Prince with the resources needed to deal with significant natural disasters. Section 4. This donation shall become effective immediately upon the execution of the appropriate release documents. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.'
