HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-88-0063J-88-80 1/5/88 RESOLUTION NO. 99-63 A RESOLUTION APPOINTING CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS TO THE EIGHTEEN (18) MEMBER CITYWIDE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY BOARD IN ACCORDANCE WITH RESOLUTION 87-1006, ADOPTED BY THE CITY COMMISSION ON NOVEMBER 19, 1987. WHEREAS, by Resolution 87-1006, the City Commission on November 19, 1987, expanded the Community Development Advisory Board from thirteen (13) members to eighteen (18) members to advise the City Commission on community development and housing needs; and WHEREAS, said Board is comprised as follows: - One (1) representative (resident or property owner) from each of the eight (8) Community Development target areas to be appointed by the City Commission; and - Ten (10) representatives to be appointed by the City Commission, providing each Commissioner with two (2) nominations to the Community Development Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, the terms of the eight (8) area representatives have expired; and WHEREAS, on December 10, 1987 through the adoption of Resolution No. 87-1097, the City Commission appointed the following six (6) individuals to said Board: Heriberto Fonseca, nominated by Mayor Suarez; Maria Elena Torano, nominated by Vice - Mayor Kennedy; Willie Calhoun and Prospero Herrera, nominated by Commissioner Dawkins; Jerry Park and Luis Sabines, nominated by Commissioner Plummer; and WHEREAS, there are twelve (12) existing vacancies on the Board that are required to be filled; 1 CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF JAN 141988 )N No. 913--63 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The following individuals are hereby appointed to the eighteen (18) member Citywide Community Development Advisory Board as follows: Mariano Cruz P representing the • Allapattah Community Development target area. Frankie Rolle , representing the Coconut Grove Community Development target area. NO APPOINTMENT MADE r representing the Downtown Community Development target area. Sandy Hall #I representing the Edison/Little River Community Development target area. Hector Lopez , representing the Little Havana Community Development target area. NO APPOINTMENT MADE , representing the Model City Community Development target area. Ann Marie Adker f representing the Overtown Community Development target area. Dorothy Quintana representing the Wynwood Community Development target area. Dario Restrepo (nominated by Mayor Suarez). Maria C. de la Rosa (nominated by Vice -Mayor Kennedy). "Honorable Mayor and ''"Members of the City Commission FROM Cesar H. oaio City Manager RECOMMENDATION 1988 DATE: FILE: SUBJECT: Resolution Making Appointments to the Community Development Advisory Board REFERENCES: Commission Agenda Item ENCLOSURES: January 14, 1988 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution. This resolution provides appointments to the Community Development Advisory Board by the City Commission. Pursuant to Resolution 87-1006, adopted by the City Commission on November 19, 1987, the C.D.A.B. was expanded from a thirteen,(13)- member to an eighteen (18)-member Board. One representative (resident or property owner) from each of the eight (8) C.D. target areas to be appointed by the City Commission, and ten (10) representatives to be appointed by the City Commission, providing each Commissioner with two appointments to the C.D.A.B. Meetings were scheduled in each of the eight target areas to accept nominations from individuals wishing to be considered by the City Commission for appointment to the Advisory Board. The following individuals were recommended to represent their target area at the target area meetings: Allapattah Mariano Cruz 1227 N.W. 26 Street Coconut Grove Frankie Rolle 3430 Williams Avenue Downtown No recommendation. be nominated. Edison/Little River Sandy Hall 200 N.E. 45 Street Little Havana Received 400 votes of 400 Received 4 votes of 4 No individuals from the public were present to Hector Lopez (business owner) 1235 W. Received 82 votes of 82 In addition to the target area representatives to be appointed by the City Commission, each Commissioner was provided with two (2) appointments pursuant to Resolution 87-1006. The following is an update of the aforementioned appointments and vacancies to be filled: 1) Mayor Suarez: Heriberto Fonseca and 2) Commissioner Plummer: Luis Sabines and Jerry Park 3) Commissioner Kennedy: Maria Elena Torano and 4) Commissioner Dawkins: Willie Calhoun and Prospero Herrera 5) Commissioner DeYurre: and It is requested that the City Commission make the appointments at the January 14, 1988 meeting so that we can complete our Community Development planning process by March. BACKGROUND The Department of Community Development has prepared the attached resolution regarding the appointment of the remaining members to the Community Development Advisory Board pursuant to Resolution 87-1006, adopted November 19, 1987. The term of membership on the Board shall expire September 1, 1989, or at such time as the successor members are duly appointed by he City of Miami Commission. - Attachment R] 98-63
