IN THE PROPOSED AMOUNT OF $425.00 TO THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE -MOUNTED PATROL HORSES AND CANINE UNIT FOR A PERIOD OF SEVEN MONTHS AT A TOTAL PROPOSED COST OF $20,319.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE 1987-88 OPERATING BUDGET INDEX CODE NO. 290301-710; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THIS SERVICE. WHEREAS, this service will be used by the Department of Police for the purpose of providing Animal Feed and Supplements to the Mounted Patrol Horses and the Canine Unit; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase will be available from the 1987-88 Operating Budget Index Code No. 290301-710; and WHEREAS, this contract was originally approved on Resolution No. 86-80 on February 13, 1987; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department of Police recommend that the extension for seven (7) months to J & L Feed Supply and Hector. Supply Co. to provide Animal Feed and Suplements to the Mounted Patrol Horses and the Canine Unit be approved; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The extension of the existing contract from J & L Feed & Supply Co. at a proposed amount of $19, 894.00 and Hector. Supply Co. at a proposed of $425.00 to provide Animal Feed and Supplements to the Mounted Patrol Horses and the Canine Unit, approved originally on Resolution No. 86-80 for the Department of Police at a total proposed cost of $20,319.00 is hereby accepted with funds therefor hereby allocated from the 1987-88 Operating Budget Index Code No. 290301-710. FILE: for Resolution Bid No. 84-85-119 Supplements It is respectfully recommended that a resolution be passed extending the existing contract for Animal Feed and Supplements with J & L Feed Supply in the amount of $19,894, and Hector Supply Co. in the amount of $425, through September 30, 1988, under the same terms, conditions, and prices as authorized in Bid No. 84-85-119, for a total proposed amount of $20,319. BACKGROUND: The Police Department continues to utilize the Mounted Patrol and K-9 Units to represent integral components of the Department's law enforcement and crime prevention program. The Mounted patrol provides for an effective and visible police presence in eight areas of the City of Miami. The K-9 Unit serves the entire City and has been most successful- in such areas as robbery an drug smuggling investigations, as well as providing protection for our police officers. J & L Feed, and Hector Supply Company continue to provide both Mounted and K-9 units with feed and supplements. It is, therefore, recommended that an extension of the contract for animal feed and supplements with J & L Feed Supply, and Hector Supply Co. be approved through September 30, 1988. The funding source will be $20,319, from the Fiscal Year 1987-88 Police Operating Budget, Index Code 290301-710.
