A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE TAX-EXEMPT
STATUS CLAIMED BY CHILDREN'S HOME SOCIETY OF
FLORIDA IN SUPPORT OF ITS REQUEST FOR RETURN
OF MONIES PAID BY IT BECAUSE OF ITS FAILURE
TO TIMELY FILE APPLICATION FOR TAX-EXEMPT
STATUS OF PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF
MIAMI; AUTHORIZING AND INSTRUCTING THE
FINANCE DIRECTOR TO PAY SAID CHILDREN'S HOME
SOCIETY OF FLORIDA THE AMOUNT OF $5,996.56
SAID SUM BEING CONFIRMED AS THE AMOUNT
RECEIVED OR TO BE RECEIVED BY THE CITY AS A
RESULT OF THE SOCIETY'S NONCOMPLIANCE WITH
THE FILING DEADLINE; FURTHER ALLOCATING SAID
SUM FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS,
CONTINGENT FUND.
WHEREAS, the Children's Home Society of Florida has
long been recognized as having a tax-exempt status under
provisions of the Florida Statutes; and
WHEREAS, the City has received or is to receive
$5,996.56 from tax monies to be paid by said Children's Home
Society of Florida due to its having failed to perfect its claim
for recognition of such status;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COME-1ISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA;
Section 1. The tax-exempt status recognized under
Florida law and claimed by the Children's Home Society of Florida
in support of its request for the waiver of monies owed to the
City because of its failure to timely file an application for
tax-exempt status of property located in the City of Miami is
hereby recognized and the Finance Director is hereby authorized
and instructed to pay said Children's Home Society the amount of
$5,996.56, said sum being confirmed as the amount received or to
be received by the City as a result of the noncompliance with the
filing deadline by the Children's Home Society of Florida.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached Resolution recognizing the tax-exempt status claimed by
Chi 1 dren' s Home Society of Florida, and support its request for
return of monies to be paid by it because of its failure to file
an application for tax-exempt status of property located within
the City of Miami, and authorizing and instructing the Finance
Director to refund to said Chi 1 dren' s Home Society of Florida the
amount of $6,996.56, which is to be paid by the Children's Home
Society of Florida, and allocating said sum from Special Programs
and Accounts Contingent Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Finance Department recommends reimbursing the amount of
$5, 996.56, to be paid by the Chi 1 dren' s Home Society of Florida,
to the City for property taxes, for its failure to file an
application for tax-exempt status of property located in the City
of Miami.
