A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE EXTENSION OF BID NO, 84-85-112 APPROVED ORTGTNALLY ON RESOLUTION NO. 82-685, FOR VETERINARY SERVICES PROVIDED BY DR. RICHARD S. TEMPLETON TO HORSES USED BY THE POLICE MOUNTED PATROL IN THE PROPOSED AMOUNT OF $4,225.00 AND FROM KNOWLES ANIMAL HOSPITAL FOR POLICE DOGS USED BY THE K-9 UNIT TN THE PROPOSED AMOUNT OF $7,475.00 FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE FOR A PERIOD OF SIX MONTHS AT A TOTAL PROPOSED COST OF $11,700.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE 1987-88 OPERATING BUDGET INDEX CODE NO. 290201-260; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO - INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THIS SERVICE. WHEREAS, this service will be used by the Department of Police for the purpose of providing veterinary services for horses used by the mounted patrol and dogs used by the K-9 Unit; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase will be available from the 1987-88 Operating Budget Index Code No. 290201-260; and WHEREAS, this contract was originally approved on Resolution No. 86-183 on March 18, 1986; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director, of the Department of Police recommend that the extension for, six (6) months to Dr.. Richard S. Templeton to provide veterinary services to horses used by the Police Mounted Patrol and to Knowles Animal Hospital to provide veterinary services to dogs used by the K-9 Unit be approved; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The extension of the existing contract from Richard S. Templeton to provide veterinary services to the horses used by the Police Mounted Patrols in the proposed amount of $4,225.00 and from Knowles Animal Hospital to provide services to the police dogs used by the K-9 Unit in the proposed amount of $7,475.00 approved originally on Resolution No. 86-183 for. the Department of Police at a total proposed cost of $11,700.00 is hereby accepted with funds therefor, hereby allocated from the 1987-88 Operating Budget Index Code No. 290201-260. Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: DATE: JA 5 I900 100 SUBJECT Recommendation for & Extension of Bid Veterinary Services REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: FILE: Resolution No. 84-85-112 It is respectfully recommended that a resolution be passed extending the existing contract for veterinary services with Knowles Animal Hospital in the amount of $7,475, and Dr. Richard S. Templeton in the amount of $4,225, through September 30, 1988, under the same terms, conditions, and prices as authorized in Bid No. 84-85-112, for a total proposed amount of $11,700. BACKGROUND: The Police Department continues to utilize the Mounted Patrol and - K-9 Units to represent integral components of the Department's law enforcement and crime prevention program. The Mounted patrol provides for an effective and visible police presence in eight areas of the City of Miami. The K-9 Unit serves the entire City and has been most successful in such areas as robbery an drug smuggling investigations, as well as providing protection for our police officers. Dr. Richard Templeton's services include x-rays, up-to-date worming, vaccination and pre -exam for new horses. The Knowles Animal Hospital provides an indoor/outdoor kennel, up-to-date worming, vaccination, and emergency services for the K-9 dogs. It is, therefore, recommended that an extension of the contract for veterinary services with Knowles Animal Hospital, and Dr. Richard S. Templeton be approved through September 30, 1988.
