A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE POLICY OF THE
COMMISSION THAT THE CITY OF MIAMI ASSUME THE
COST OF MAINTAINING THE GAS LIGHTED TORCH
AT THE GIRON MONUMENT HONORING MEMBERS OF
BRIGADA DE ASALTO
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
That the City of Miami assume the cost of maintaining the
gas lighted torch at the Giron Monument honoring members of
Brigada de Asalto.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of May, 1972.

Giron Monument

The April 22, 1972, letter from Pedro B. Encinosa, President of
Brigada de Asalto, was discussed in reference to the final matters
relating to the Giron Monument. Specifically, it is requested that
the City further participate in the following:
1. Installation of four light posts so that the area where the
Island of Cuba is shown is more illuminated.
2. " Green areas and garden to the park.
3. Include funds in the City of Miami budget for electricity
and gas for the eternal light.
At the time this project was initially conceived, City Commission
permission to install the Monument at its present location was granted
with the specific provision that the Monument would be installed and
maintained by Brigada de Asalto. These assurances were given the
City Commission.
• As indicated at the City Commission meeting of May 4, 1972, the City
Adminispration has reviewed the request of Pedro B. Encinosa. The
• Gtity has ordered the installation of the four street lights which will
assist in the illumination of the Monument and the City proposes to bear
the -street lighting billing after the lights are installed. Based on the
previous. commitments, I cannot recommend to the Commission that the
City provide any maintenance or physical adjustments to the Monument,
nor bear the expense of the gas utilities associated with the eternal light.
