A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE BID OF AMERICAN LaFRANCE
RECEIVED ON NOVEMBER 19, 1971 FOR NEW FIRE APPARATUS
FOR NEW FIRE STATION NO. 8 AND NEW FIRE STATION NO.
3, TO WIT: (1) 100-FT. TRACTOR DRAWN AERIAL LADDER
TRUCK, ONE (1) 1000G.P.M. PUMPER, AND TWO (2) 1250
G.P.M. PUMPERS; AND APPROPRIATING $190,000 FROM THE
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT UNALLOCATED FUNDS, IN LIEU OF
AND UNTIL SUCH TIME AS ADDITIONAL BONDS ARE SOLD
FROM THE BALANCE OF FIRE FIGHTING AND RESCUE FACILITIES
BONDS, FOR THE PURPOSE OF PURCHASING FOUR SEPARATE
PIECES OF FIRE APPARATUS; AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECT-
ING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE PURCHASING AGENT
TO ISSUE PURCHASE ORDER THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, bids were received on November 19, 1971, for
new fire apparatus for new Fire Station No. 8 and new Fire
Station No. 3 and separate proposals were requested for (1)
100-ft. Tractor Drawn Aerial Ladder Truck, one (1) 100 G.P.M.
Pumper, and two (2) 1250 G.P.M. Pumpers and specifications
were sent to ABC Fire Equipment, Inc. (Seagrave Co.), Peter
Pirsch & Sons, Mr. W. Q. Dowling (Ward LaFrance), American
LaFrance, Maxim Motor Division, and Mack Trucks, and
WHEREAS, bids were received on the one (1) 100-ft.
Tractor Drawn Aerial Ladder. Truck from American LaFrance,
Ward LaFrance, Maxim Motor Division, Peter Pirsch & Sons,
and on the (1) 1000 G.P.M. Pumper and the two (2) 1250 G.P.M.
Pumper, bids were received from American LaFrance, Ward
LaFrance, and Maxim Motor Division, and
WHEREAS, American LaFrance submitted the low basic bid
on all pieces of apparatus and their proposal contained a
letter indicating that if the City of Miami was willing to
accept a cab which is inferior to the cab called for in the
specifications, $1,824.00 could be deducted from the price

of each 1250 G.P.M. Pumper, $1,926.00 could be deducted from
the price of the 1000 G.P.M. Pumper, and $828.00 could be de-
ducted from the price of the 100-ft. Tractor Drawn Aerial
Ladder Truck, and American LaFrance submitted the low basic
bid on an individual basis, and their lump sum bid for all
four units amounts to $177,440.00, not counting optional
equipment, and
WHEREAS, the proposals from Ward LaFrance contained
letters indicating that if they were awarded the order for
all three Pumper units, $750.00 could be deducted from the
bid price on each Pumper unit; if they were awarded the order
for the three Pumpers and the Aerial Ladder Truck, an addi-
tional $750.00 could be deducted from the bid price on the
Aerial Ladder Truck, and Ward LaFrance was the high bidder
on the 100-ft. Aerial Ladder Truck, next to the low bidder
on the 1000 G.P.M. Pumper, and next to the low bidder on the
1250 G.P.M. Pumpers, and the total lump sum bid for all four
units amounts to $187,425.00, not counting the optional
equipment, and if the $750.00 discount per unit were applied,
it would reduce the amount of the total bid to $184,425.00,
which is still $6,985.00 higher than the lump sum bid of
American LaFrance, and
WHEREAS, the proposals submitted by Maxim Motor Division
were high on all units and reflected numerous exceptions to
the specifications, and
WHEREAS, Peter Pirsch & Sons submitted a proposal for
furnishing the 100-ft. Tractor Drawn Aerial Ladder Truck only
and did not indicate any exceptions and their bid price was
not the low bid, and

WHEREAS, in lieu of and until such time as additional
bonds are sold from the balance of Fire Fighting and Rescue
Facilities Bonds, $190,000 need be appropriated from the
Capital Improvement Unallocated Funds,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Due to the fact that American LaFrance sub-
mitted the lowest bid on an individual basis, and their lump
sum bid amounts to $6,985.00 less than Ward LaFrance, American
LaFrance is hereby awarded the order to furnish one (1) 100-ft.
Tractor Drawn Aerial Ladder Truck for $62,862.00, with option-
al equipment in the amount of $2,763.00 (as per list, Attach-
ment "A") for a total bid price of $65,625.00.
Section 2. American LaFrance is hereby awarded the bid
to furnish one (1) 1000 G.P.M. Pumper at the bid price of
$36,874.00, with optional equipment in the amount of $2,482.00
(as per list, Attachment "B") for a total bid price of
$39,356.00
Section 3. American LaFrance is hereby awarded the bid
to furnish two (2) 1250 G.P.M. Pumpers at the bid price of
$38,852.00 each, or a total of $77,704.00 for the two Pumpers,
with optional equipment in the amount of $5,536.00 (as per
list, Attachment "C") for a total bid price of $83,240.00.
Section 4. That $190,000 will be appropriated from the
Capital Improvement Unallocated Funds in lieu of and until
such time as additional bonds are sold from the balance of
Fire Fighting and Rescue Facilities Bonds.
Section 5. The City Manager is hereby authorized and
directed to instruct the purchasing agent to issue purchase
of •
order therefor.
